I am a M.Sc. student in Materials Science Engineering at Sharif University of Technology. Both my B.Sc. and M.Sc. projects have been developed on studying microstructure and mechanical properties of nanocomposites. I am currently working on hot deformation and microstructure of aluminum-based nanocomposites produced via powder metallurgy root.

My research interests are mainly computational methods in materials science and the investigation of amorphous and glass materials from a crystallographic aspect. Molecular dynamics provides one the chance of studying materials and mechanisms happening in them from an atomic point of view. The Newtonian equation of motion is the basis of all MD simulations and the potential function used in such work has great effect on the accuracy of the results. Glass materials are my other point of interest. Even though they are most of the times considered the same as amorphous materials, one should note that glass materials form only when the first-order phase transformation (solidification) is prevented and the material experiences the glass transition which is a second-order transition.

Currently working on thermal barrier coatings (TBC). TBCs are widely used in turbines for propulsion and power generation. Such coatings are designed to provide several functionalities such as oxidation and thermal protection. TBCs are generally a combination of multiple layers of coatings, which each layer having a specific function and requirement. A typical TBC system consists of a NiCrAlY bond coat and YSZ top coat. An approach to this project is use of a Nanostructured yttria stabilized zirconia (nano-YSZ) as top coat layer to improve the properties of coating.

Parham Sahandi Zangabad is a MSc student in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Sharif University of Technology. Hi studies Nanomaterials and Technology.  His current activity is focused on “Fatigue behavior of in-situ Al/Al3Ti nanocomposite”. In this work, fatigue behavior of Al matrix nanocomposite containing in-situ Al3Ti nanoparticulates is being studied. The nanocomposite is produced by fricton stir processing (FSP). Microstructural examinations and fractographic studies are evaluated by optical microscopy and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) as well as electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) method. Also, Phase identification is done using X-ray diffraction (XRD).
