The center for nanostructured and advanced materials (CNAM) was formed in April of 2004 as an outgrowth of the Materials Science and Engineering Department of Sharif University of Technology. Nanostructures group was the first group, which shaped here and now actively involved in performing various industrial projects through the appropriate contracts by the industries and organizations in the country. It addresses the problems of the national and international materials processing community and focuses on the following research areas:

-          Production and processing of composite materials

-          Nanostructure materials, in particular nanoparticles and Nanocomposites

-          Mechanical alloying and milling

-          Rapid solidification processing

-          Friction stir welding (FSW)

-          Tailored and functionally designed materials

-          Metal Foams and cellular structures

-          Advanced materials deformation and forming processes

-          Rapid fabrication of prototype components and durable tooling

-          Computer simulation and process control in support of materials processing

 The goal of the Nanostructures group is to put into place the resources and training to advance the nanostructure and advanced materials filed in a global, competitive environment. To this end, education, research and service are all intertwined to complete this task. We couple the educational component with an equally strong hands-on laboratory experience for a balanced program. This provides a good balance for basic and applied research.
